Magmata

Into a great arctic sea, frigid and obscure, erupts, for once in Eternity, a volcano. Hot sludge spends all its energy reaching out in every direction for a companion, for a flash of warmth mixing around in the infinite cold. For an infinitesimal instant, two curves pass through each other, as they must. The lava cools. It dies into igneous rock of holes would-be filled with air. Sad sediment fills the holes. The eruption chokes. Into the taciturn sea it disappears, waiting an eternity to metamorphose.
